The correct support will depend partly on your weight, profile and sleeping position. To keep your spine properly aligned, the mattress should neither be too soft nor too hard. Too soft and it will not support your hips and spine; too hard and it will cause pressure on your hips and shoulders. A general rule is that the greater your weight, the firmer the mattress that is needed to support you. We'd advise you to avoid a very firm mattress if you sleep on your side and have wide hips.

Comfort is very subjective; some people prefer a firmer mattress to others. When choosing a new mattress bear in mind your opinions about your current mattress and others you’ve slept on.

Our selection will give you a range of firmness options, all with excellent long term back support. Our advice and recommendations are based on our opinions and observations and feedback from customers in our showroom.

Before the full details, here is a summary:
The Waterlattex is our most popular mattress, it suits a wide range of shapes and sizes. If in doubt, choose the Waterlattex.

Our softest mattress is the Green Rest. Ideal if you're a lighter weight and don't like a firm mattress or if you simply like a softer mattress.

Our firmest mattress is the Relaxsan. It is very firm and is a good choice if you like a fairly hard mattress, or weigh over 95 Kg and need firmer support.

Organic Latex is a superb medium – firm latex mattress perfect for the organic lifestyle.

The Memory Duet Coolmax is a medium firm mattress made from memory foam which molds to the shape of your body.

The Memory Classic Coolmax is a firmer memory foam mattress.

The Sleep Easy is an excellent, no frills budget mattress.

We do not sell pocket sprung mattresses.

Apart from the Organic Latex, these mattresses are supplied vacuum packed and delivered as a rolled up tube. Carry them to the bedroom, place on the bed, remove the wrapping and watch them expand to their full size. They are hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites and recommended for allergy sufferers. Some people find that they are a warmer sleep than a pocket sprung mattress – you may need a thinner duvet – see also the Coolmax mattress.

We also make Futon mattresses which can be used both for our beds and futon sofa beds.

Waterlattex (firm)

Our most popular mattress, an excellent choice for all shapes and sizes. The Waterlattex mattress is filled with a mixture of polymer foam and natural latex expanded under water to produce a firm sponge-like structure.

Relaxsan (very firm)

An extremely firm mattress made from expanded polymer foam, a high density filling with excellent elasticity

• Approx 18cm thick
• a warmer, wool side for winter and a cooler, cotton side for summer
• easy maintenance, turn over with the seasons and rotate top to bottom once a month
• possibly too hard if you weigh under 65Kg, but this is a personal choice
• may also be too hard if you have wide hips and sleep on your side

Organic Latex (medium to firm)

This mattress is made on a farm in Wales. A 15cm thick core of latex is wrapped in organic Welsh wool and covered in certified organic cotton. A beautifully made mattress and an excellent choice for the organic lifestyle. Latex is natural rubber, the type of material that is used in Dunlopillow mattresses. A very comfortable medium to firm mattress.

Unlike our vaccuum packed mattresses it is delivered full size and boxed, straight from the farm. A heavy mattress - you will need two people to install. We will arrange delivery for the same day we deliver our bed base.

Memory Mattresses:

We have two types, the Memory Duet Coolmax and the Memory Classic Coolmax.
These mattresses contain slow recovery visco elastic, 'memory' foam. Memory foam reacts to the warmth of your body by softening and molding to your profile. Your weight is very evenly distributed which helps good circulation and relaxes your muscles and joints. Less pressure on your hips and shoulders means you’ll toss and turn less, which will aid a relaxing and deep sleep.

The Duet is a softer option, the Classic a firmer option.
If you want a special size mattress we can still supply the Concept Deluxe 2000 which is a firmer memory mattress. Details on request.

 

Memory Duet Coolmax (medium) New for 2008

The Duet has two layers of memory foam, the thin top layer gives a luxurious, soft surface on top of the main responsive layer which adjusts to your profile. Based on the previous Memory Duet but with the addition of a Coolmax cover to keep you cool and fresh.

Memory Classic Coolmax (firm) New for 2008

This is a memory foam mattress, firmer than the Duet, suitable for most body weights. Fitted with a Coolmax cover to keep you cool and fresh. The Memory Classic is becoming a very popular mattress in our showroom. It is firm but not hard; unlike the Waterlattex it feels very inert and has no ‘bounce’. Of course it isn’t inert, it is subtly reacting to your warmth and weight by softening under your hips and shoulders.

Sleep Easy (firm)

We have selected the Sleep Easy as an excellent budget mattress. The filling is a high quality expanded polymer foam, the cover is polycotton.

Futon Mattress (firm)

A modern version of the traditional Japanese mattress, good value.

Although the same firmness rating as the Waterlattex, the sensation is different in that the surface is softer and you settle deeper into the futon. Futons are filled with layers of cotton and polyester felt. In 2005 we introduced a special new filling - cotton fibres held in a matrix of polyester - into our futons to give even better performance. The cotton layers create the essential ‘futon’ style, they contribute to firmness and the “cool in summer, warm in winter” character. The polyester layers are springier, lighter in weight and increase the futon’s comfort and life span. Our 6 layer futon now contains 2 layers of cotton, 2 layers of ultraspring polyester and 2 layers of the new technical filling. We have over 20 years experience as specialist futon makers using the best quality materials to produce very comfortable futons.

• futons become firmer over time but will typically last between 5 and 10 years. Good maintenance is essential to maximise the life of your futon.
• the cotton in a futon will absorb the moisture trapped under the quilt when you sleep. You must air your futon and fluff up the fibres by rolling it up and turning it over once a week - more often if you perspire heavily. Roll it up like a Swiss roll in the morning, roll it out again at night. If you use it on the floor you should do this on alternate days.
• the thickness of the futon should be appropriate to your weight. If your weight is below 80Kg you will need a 6 layer futon. Above 80Kg you will need a 7 layer futon and over 95Kg you will need to use two 4 layer futons - or one of our other types of mattress. If you want a 7 layer 1.80m futon you will need to use a 3 layer and a 4 layer futon together
• futons can be made in special shapes and sizes
• futons are covered in calico, off white cotton. Coloured fabrics are available for sofabed futons.

 

Futons for Sofa Beds

The Tokyo and Fiji futons sofa beds are normally supplied with a coloured cotton drill futon.
The cotton drill colours are: navy blue, amethyst, wine, terracotta, lake blue, forest green, harmony green and stone.

The futons are finished with coloured ties which pass through the futon and keep the filling in position. Choose from: natural, black, navy or grey ties.

The Cuba and Panama sofabeds normally have a calico, off white, futon with an extra faux suede cover which can be removed for cleaning

Faux suede colours: plum, mustard, brick, ice blue, biscuit, latte and chocolate.

Removable futon covers are also available in the cotton fabrics.

The Cuba is supplied with a 7 layer futon, other models with a 6 layer futon.

We specialise in offering choice – so you can also have removable faux suede futon covers for your Tokyo or Fiji and cotton drill or chenille futons for your Cuba or Panama - enquire for price details.

Mattress Protectors

Recommended for every new mattress! If you want to protect your new mattress, or suffer from bed mite allergies, we'd recommend the use of a fitted mattress protector. They have a lightly quilted soft cotton cover with elasticated corners for easy removal and cleaning.
The underside of the mattress protector is treated with Ultrafresh*, an antibacterial barrier effective in the elimination of dust mites. Our mattress protectors are machine washable, they are made oversized and shrink to the correct size after the first wash.
