Timber

Most models are available in a selection of timbers. One or two options are not offered because of timber quality supply problems or particular technical difficulties with a timber and the way it would need to be used, eg we currently do not offer the Senegal in oak.

We only use timber from sustainable sources and never use endangered tropical hardwoods. Our pine is from Scandinavia and our hardwoods - ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut and beech are from the USA or northern Europe.

Timber varies in colour and grain from piece to piece, the variation ensuring that each bed is unique. We will use our discretion to assemble the timber for your bed in the most attractive way - a subjective process!

BEECH is a light coloured timber with a slightly pinkish cast and a tight, speckled grain. See also the Zanskar bed.

ASH is a light colour with a cream cast and usually shows a strong figure in the grain. Some darker areas of grain can occur as shown on the Nevada table top. See also the Barcelona bed.

OAK has a generally consistent colour with a tight, pronounced grain. See also the Malabar, Nevada and Kulu Beds

CHERRY has a smooth grain and a reddish/brown colour which deepens quite quickly. Small areas of lighter colour sometimes occur. See also the Sahara bed.

WALNUT has a dramatic grain, a rich chocolate coloured grain with lighter stripes at times. See also the Oregon a nd Tibet beds

MAPLE is a very pale wood with a smooth grain and a contemporary appearance. See also the Madrid and Java beds.

PINE can be clear lacquered or stained and lacquered in a variety of colours.

LACQUERS AND STAINS

Clear lacquer enhances the natural beauty of the wood, bringing out the colour and detail in the grain.
